Cast includes Ellen Burstyn, Maruschka Detmers, Anthony Andrews, Donald Pleasence, David Warner, Denholm Elliott, Vincenzo Ricotta, and Ingrid Pitt. (148 minutes, 1988)
The Lusty Men: Knowledgeable, atmospheric rodeo tirade, with ex-winner Mitchum becoming mentor of novice Kennedy-and finding himself allured to Kennedy’s no nonsense spouse Hayward. Dense going most of the way-till that hokey finale. Cast includes Susan Hayward, Robert Mitchum, Arthur Kennedy, Arthur Hunnicutt, and Blunt Faylen. (113 minutes, 1952)
A Perfect Murder: Knowing his wife has taken a lover Steven Taylor is going to set up the perfect murder. He confronts the man who is sleeping with his wife. Together they become part of a plan to kill the wife. When the night comes things don’t go as planned.
Deep in My Heart: visitor megastars Walter Pidgeon, Paul Henreid, Rosemary Clooney, Gene and Fred Kelly, Jane Powell, Vic Damone, Ann Miller, Cyd Charisse, Howard Keel, Tony Martin. The life of composer Sigmund Romberg is not the stuff of high tirade, although film glitters in production numbers with MGM visitor megastars. Highlights contain Kelly brothers’ only film appearance together, Chatisse’s attractive and sensual dance number with James Mitchell, and a remarkable number characterizing Ferrer acting a whole show himself. Cast includes Jose Ferrer, Merle Oberon, Helen Traubel, Doe Avedon, Tamara Toumanova, Paul Stewart, Douglas Fowley, and Jim Backus. (132 minutes, 1954)
What About Bob: Dr. Leo Marvin, renowned author and psychiatrist, is head to the country with his family for some much needed rest and relaxation. He will be happy to get out of New York, and away from a new, pesky patient named Bob. To his surprise and amazement, Bob follows him on vacation, and turns his vacation upside down.
The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit: Sloan Wilson’s smooth novel of Madison Avenue executive battling to get ahead and to find meaning in his home life. Great cameo by Ann Harding who plays March’s spouse. Inscribed by the controller; music by Bernard Herrmann. Cast includes Gregory Poke, Jennifer Jones, Fredric March, Marisa Pavan, and Henry Daniel. (153 minutes, 1956)
Gordon’s War: While a Vietnam vet comes home to find his spouse caught on medications, he trains 4-gentleman army to annihilate the pushers. Excellent action, although gets lost toward the end. Cast includes Paul Winfield, Carl Lee, David Downing, and Tony Baron. (90 minutes, 1973)
Red Planet: Utterly typical sci-fi fable in reference to a mission to Mars in the year 2050. No-hogwash captain Moss is left alone on her transport when her contentious team checks on a terra-forming venture on Harms to build grub and oxygen. Looks excellent, although covers critically recognizable dramatic turf. Cast includes Val Kilmer, Carrie-Anne Moss, Tom Sizemore, Benjamin Bratt, Simon Baker, and Terence Stamp. (106 minutes, 2000)
