Awesome Hawaiian Party Theme Ideas
A Hawaiian party theme, or Luau party should have a surf shack or beach bar as its centre piece. For best effect you would hold your party on the beach on a hot sunny day, but you could also hold it in the local park or in your back garden.
The luau party should typically be about eating lovely food, singing and dancing.
Dressing up is essential for any Hawaiian party theme. For the ladies I suggest grass skirts, floral armbands, lei necklaces, flowers in their hair and sandals. If you like, you can also go for a coconut bra to top off the outfit.
Guys get to dress in their favorite Hawaiian print shirt. Get some matching shorts, sandals, sunglasses and a flowery necklace and you’re all set. I’m afraid that the ladies have a much better costume for this theme though.
For the setting, consider some or all of the following; beach balls and net, sea shells and coconuts scattered around, hula hoops with a possible instructor and a limbo stick. The limbo is a great game to play when everybody is drunk later on.
For food, I would consider creating a tropical fruit centrepiece and allow your guests to skewer or tooth pick their own selection from grapes, cherries, mangos, pineapples, melon and peaches etc. I would also look into making some seafood delicacies (budget dependant).
For the drinks, I would consider hiring out a cocktail maker (budget dependant), this will provide great entertainment also. If not then you can provide instructions for your guests for favorites such as the Aloha and castaway. Provide little umbrellas to top off the drink.
Finally for the music I would go with Ska, though it is not to everybody’s taste. Have an emergency supply of present hits just incase. Though I would look into getting some genuine Hawaiian folk music. Hawaii has a proud musical heritage that unfortunately isn’t very widely known.
