Any good player knows that there is no one best ping pong paddle. There are many different paddles with various grades of rubber and what may work well for you may not for me. There are paddles that are best for beginners though, and they are the ones that have little to no rubber. The more advanced you are the more you will want a paddle with thick rubber so as to be able to spin the ball better.

The more expensive paddles have better rubber and more of it as well as a handle and bat that are made out of better wood. They have a much more solid feel and this will immediately be evident if you try playing with both and comparing them. Paddles that cost upwards of $100 have a tremendous feel to them and allow you to spin the ball and control it much better than you ever could with something less expensive.

There are only a handful of ping pong companies out there and Butterfly is a leading manufacturer of both paddles and tables. At any major table tennis tournament, the odds are the table and many of the paddles in use will be Butterfly made.

Butterfly makes a wide variety of stock and custom made paddles but you will find it hard to locate a store that sells them. Most sporting goods stored in the United States only carry a small selection of paddles and this is due to the low popularity of the game. American children dont grow up idolizing any ping pong players like they do in other sports and so the demand for merchandise is not great.

If you live in China or Japan you will probably have no problem finding ping pong paddles as the sport is extremely popular there. In the US though, you will need to go online to find a good selection or to have a paddle custom made for you. Luckily you can find a big selection online but the drawback is that you will have no opportunity to test the paddle before you buy it.

Are you looking for a place to buy a Butterfly Derek May paddle? If so, please visit my website The Best Ping Pong Paddle.

This is because there are many different types of paddles and each player will have his or her own preferences. One thing is for sure though, and that is that a good beginner paddle will be an awful one for an advanced player and vice versa. The more advanced you are the more you will want to spin the ball which can only be done with an advanced paddle. Likewise, beginners will not want to spin the ball and should use a beginner paddle.

The better ping pong paddles have more rubber as well as a better type of rubber. Additionally, the handle and bat is thicker and made out of a more expensive wood. If you try playing with a cheap store bought paddle and then try playing with a paddle that cost $100 or more, you will immediately feel a big difference. The more expensive a paddle is the more it will give you a solid feel and you will be able to hit the ball back with much more spin and control.

There are only a handful of ping pong companies out there and Butterfly is a leading manufacturer of both paddles and tables. At any major table tennis tournament, the odds are the table and many of the paddles in use will be Butterfly made.

American children dont grow up idolizing any ping pong players like they do in other sports and so the demand for merchandise is not great.

You wouldn’t have this problem in China or Japan where the sport is much more popular and the good equipment is much easier to find. If you want to find a good paddle in America, about your only choice is to look for it online. You can find almost any paddle online and usually at a reasonable price as well but of course you can’t try it out first.

When you are starting out in a new sport such as mountain biking it can be overwhelming at first due to the sheer number of different mountain bikes available. My top five tips below will help you to narrow down the choices available and buy the right mountain bike to suit your needs.

Figure out what type of cyclist you aspire to be. Mountain bikes typically fall into one of the following categories: All Terrain Trail Bikes, Downhill (DH), Cross Country (XC), and Freeride.

Freeride mountain bikes are great for showing off your skills and tricks, but due to their heavier construction they are not suited to long trails. Cross Country or XC bikes are very efficient because they are constructed from light weight materials. The most specialized of mountain bikes are the Downhill ones that are specifically engineered for exciting downhill racing.

I recommend that if you are just starting out that you consider an All Terrain mountain bike so that you will be able to enjoy most aspects of the sport. It is highly probable that once you get some experience under your belt you will buy a more specialized bike such as a Freeride or XC.

When you start to look for a mountain bike one of the most frequently asked questions is Hardtail or Full Suspension? Seasoned Pros will have their opinions on this but for the most part if you are just starting out I recommend a Full Suspension mountain bike. As the name suggests Full Suspension mountain bikes have rear and front suspension and are arguably more comfortable unlike Hardtail mountain bikes which only have rear suspension.

Consider where you love as a factor in which type of mountain bike that you buy. Buying a Downhill bike is probably not a great idea if there are no steep trails nearby. Don’t be afraid to ask your local bike dealer to check what the mountain bike trails are like in your area.

Living in price sensitive times such as these consider used mountain bikes from online auction sites like eBay or Craigslist. This is a great way to break into the fantastic sport of mountain biking and by using the guide above you will be able to buy the right mountain bike to suit your needs.

In price sensitive times such as these buying a used mountain bike is a great way for beginners to get into the fantastic world of mountain biking and for seasoned pros to keep participating in the sport they love. There are literally thousands of mountain bikes available so which one is right for you? My five essential tips will help you out.

Mountain bikes are typically sub-categorised into the following: Cross Country (XC), Freeride, All Terrain Trail Bikes, and Downhill (DH). Figure out what type of cyclist you aspire to be taking into account the availability of mountain bike trails local to where you live.

A freeride bike is great for hard terrain such as indoors or pavement and perfect for tricks, skill, and hard terrain. Forget about freeride though if you plan to spend most of your time riding along flat terrain as they are fairly heavy bikes. Cross Country bikes (XC) are great for efficiency because of their lightweight construction. Avoid XC bikes though if you plan on riding over rough terrain where comfort is more of a requirement. For downhill racing look at Downhill bikes which are specifically made for this great aspect of mountain biking.

If you are starting out a well made All Terrain bike will be a great way to get the most out of your local trails. As you get more proficient and have experienced much of what mountain biking has to offer then that will be a great time to buy a more specialised mountain bike.

Check with your local bike dealer and at on line forums to see what type of mountain bike trails are local to where you live. Ultimately if there are no downhill trails closes by then you will want to avoid buying a DH mountain bike. Consider your local terrain and buy a mountain bike to suit.

By being realistic about what type of mountain bike cycling you will be doing and using my tips described above will ensure that you buy the right bike for you. Don’t forget to check out on-line auction sites like eBay and Craigslist for used mountain bikes and grab yourself a bargain.

Arguably one of the most common questions when starting out mountain biking is Full Suspension or Hardtail? Hardtail bikes have rear suspension only and require less maintenance and for this reason they tend to be cheaper. Full suspension bikes on the other hand have front and rear suspension which makes them far more comfortable. I recommend full suspension bikes initially as they will be much kinder to your bottom.

Consider where you love as a factor in which type of mountain bike that you buy. Buying a Downhill bike is probably not a great idea if there are no steep trails nearby. Don’t be afraid to ask your local bike dealer to check what the mountain bike trails are like in your area.

by James Warner

If hiking is your intention, one of the most important things you can do is take good care of your feet. Everyone has different feet. High arches, flat or wide feet are just a few of the things that can make finding the right fit challenging… but if you take the time to make the best decision possible, your whole body will thank you.

Defining your use is the first step. Doing shorter hikes at the local parks with less challenging terrain requires only a good pair of trail shoes. These look like sneakers. The big difference is much better support. If you will be going on a multi-day hiking trip where you will be carrying a pack over more rugged terrain, you will need a pair of backpacking boots.

No need to be familiar with each manufacturer to make an informed decision. There are 5 common parts that every pair of outdoor shoes has. As long as you know what they are and how to test each shoe for them, you will always make a good choice.

Your outsole is the rubber tread which makes contact with the ground. The best outsoles have a staggered tread for better traction. In other words, the raised lugs of the tread should not be in tight, uniform rows. Having a staggered tread also assures that when your shoe flexes, dirt and debris will be released.

The midsole is a layer of material above the outsole. You can only see the outside edges of it. The purpose of the midsole is to disperse kinetic energy shock. Every time the force of your foot hits the ground, an equal and opposite shock rebounds back up through your anatomy. Without a sufficient midsole, your tendons, ligaments and cartilage would be responsible to radiate and disperse most of that kinetic energy. Without a sufficient midsole, your body tires easily, your joints become sore and your muscles sometimes ache.

Determining the level of midsole support in any shoe or boot is easy. Just hold the back of the shoe firmly in your left hand, put the front tip of the shoe against the palm of your right hand and apply pressure, enough so that the front half of the shoe begins to bend upwards. You will notice that some shoes exert more resistance to counter that pressure. The more resistance there is, the more supportive the midsole. Most sneakers just fold in half because they lack midsole support. Keep in mind that you still want your choice to be somewhat flexible. If you choice were too stiff, you may not feel trail debris under your feet causing you to slip. You still need to feel the earth under your feet.

The footbed, commonly referred to as the insole is a thin piece of material cut to fit the inside shape of the shoe providing support and cushioning to the anatomical curvature of the bottom of your foot. Most manufacturers supply insufficient footbeds with their boots and shoes. Once removed, if you can easily twist them out of shape, they will only provide minimal cushioning and no real support. You may choose a shoe or boot and use the original footbed, but over time it will compress and you will loose the cushioning. You may wish to try a replacement footbed with actual support. My favorites are called Superfeet. A good footbed provides proper anatomical support for your feet and body, significantly reducing stress.

The upper is the material of which the main body of the boot or shoe is manufactured. The most common materials are leather, synthetic leather, nylon, ballistic nylon and breathable mesh panels. The upper also contains the tongue, lacing hardware and laces. A shoe or boot made of full grain leather traps more heat, has less breathability and takes more time to break in. Having mesh panels makes for a more comfortable shoe in warmer conditions.

Most people relate ankle support to the height of a boot, but that isn’t the case. All of your ankle support comes from an area of the shoe which wraps around the heel area under the outer materials called the heel counter. Some low cut shoes have excellent ankle support where many full cut boots do not.

If you drew an imaginary line straight down the very back center of a shoe, it would cut the heel counter in half. If you compressed the shoe between your palms on either side of that line, shoes with little ankle support would fold flat along the line toward the bottom near the outsole. A shoe with superior ankle support will not easily fold at the lower back of the shoe.

There you go. Now you know what to look for and how to test for it. The only remainder is how the shoe fits and feels and you will have to figure that out for yourself. If you feel YES, when you try on a boot or shoe… you know you have a good fit and I know you will know, when you have a definite NO. There is no MAYBE!

Home fitness equipment has never been so popular and there is a huge range to choose from. Do not make the mistake of buying apparatus and then forgetting why you bought it, however. Before you decide on anything specific, think about it carefully.

Be careful when you see commercials advertising fitness apparatus as it will always be shown in the best possible light. Sit down and think about what it is you are hoping to achieve before you take out your credit card, and don’t make the mistake of purchasing the latest product advertised on television.

Remember that home fitness equipment is designed to perform different tasks and you will need to work out just what parts of your body you intend to train. If you have other outside physical activities then hopefully the equipment will help you train for these. The problem is that buying the equipment is the easy bit, it is actually using it that takes determination.

Always remember that the cost of an item is no guarantee it will be used so think about this before you hand over your credit card. If this were the case there wouldn’t be so many ads in the classified section of the paper each week! Once you have set yourself an upper limit to the amount you want to spend, find the best you can for the amount you have available.

In the end it is you who has to decide whether the equipment is worth spending the money. That said, cheaper fitness products are not necessarily bad. You can find a lot of descent quality equipment on sales each year. It is also advisable to search for good deals on-line.

Don’t forget to take some measurements inside your home before you do buy as if it doesn’t fit after you have bought it, it may be too late for a refund if it was a sale item, and you will be surprised how many people forget this tiny detail. Also, if you have any concerns about your fitness to use the equipment, have a physical examination carried out to ensure there will not be any problems. It is important to ensure the equipment is comfortable in use and won’t cause any physical problems or it will be a waste of money.

Also, don’t dismiss the idea of joining a gym as often it can be cheaper to use their facilities and this can be a viable alternative to actually spending money on personal home fitness equipment. Fitness equipment should be bought with careful consideration, do not buy on impulse and always ask the opinion of a professional gym instructor before you buy something.
