Whenever a warrior did the tribe proud or please the tribe’s chief, he or she is rewarded with a special design. And usually, the tattoo bearer will also gain a special status just like the Native Americans.

For the Maoris, a tattoo can be a commemoration of a event or a celebration like for example, winning a war. And when a tribesman or women shows exception qualities like courage or strength in an event, the tribe’s chief will award them with a special tattoo as well.

Last but not least, the Hawaiians are also known for their tribal tattoo designs. The tribal tattoo is also a form of status in the Hawaiian culture as well. They too believe that the tattoos are a protection against danger and evil spirits.

As you can see, most tribal tattoos have a slightly different meaning in different cultures but yet again, they have some sort of similarity. Although we are not primitive tribesmen and women, it is still cool to know a little bit of the history behind these designs isnt it?
