Everyone and everything is hurting. The job market and economy are hurting. Investors in the stock market are hurting. We all know someone who has lost their job and maybe even their retirement in this market. Do not lose hope. Instead, trying changing your way of thinking. Instead of focusing on the problem, focus on the solution. If you are creative enough, you can come up with additional ways to make money.

You can sit around with the neighbors and complain your evenings away, or barbeque hamburgers and moan about not being able to have lobster. You will be a victim” of the recession only if you choose to be one. You can either sit back or squeeze through or you can take an active role and discover ways to take advantage of the “new” economy.

Do not let negative thinking overcome you. I know it is hard but try hard not to. If you want to make it through this as fast as you can, you need to have a positive mindset.

Let us examine how most Americans view the standard “making money” plan: Finish High School and finish College at all costs Get a good job and turn it into a career Let the company take care of retirement, health insurance, for you and family If the company goes under, you can get on unemployment Find a better job

You are probably a career minded individual and want to stay at the company you work for, for many years. But then comes a recession and the company you work for has to lay you off. It seems the company was not on board with your “stay for many years” game plan.

Your company is now adapting to the economy, that is precisely what you need to do, but do not adapt by getting on unemployment then taking any old job and ultimately settling for less in life.

Have you heard of, what Robert Allen called, multiple streams of income? Successful people do not just rely on one stream of income. Multiple streams of income might mean money coming in from a day job, the stock market, and a home business. This way if one of your income streams go bad, your entire income does not just die off.

This concept can be applied to any sources of income you like. The idea is to not just rely on one source of income from your career. Think of your family as a diversified company that specializes in different things. So on Friday nights, instead of going out, you can use your spare time to develop different income streams.

Here are a few basic ideas: doing landscaping for people, babysitting, dog sitting, house-sitting, refuse hauling service, a tutoring service, an Adsense blog, an affiliate sales program, and take pictures an uploading to a photograph sharing site where you get paid for everyone of your pictures that are purchased and downloaded.

Take a moment to think about what you are good at, I know the ideas will start to flow.

To survive this recession, you need to cut back on your spending, identify and create additional revenue streams, and keep a positive attitude.
